The Story of Mark Mateschitz: Carrying Forward Dietrich Mateschitz's Legacy and Earning a Spot Among the World's Youngest Rich

Mark Mateschitz, the New Captain of Red Bull: Strengthens Business Structure with Major Changes in Company Management

Mark Mateschitz is the owner and Austrian billionaire heir to the world's most successful energy drink brand, Red Bull. He is the only child of the late co-founder of Red Bull, Dietrich Mateschitz. Following Dietrich Mateschitz's passing in October 2022, Mark took over his father's vast business empire at the age of just 30. This empire includes a 49 percent stake in the Red Bull company, the Formula One teams Red Bull Racing and VCARB (formerly AlphaTauri), and football clubs like RB Leipzig along with other sports teams. This inheritance made Mark one of the youngest billionaires in the world.

Mark Mateschitz was born in 1992. His mother is Anita Gerharder, an Austrian entrepreneur who runs a Finnish water brand called Icebreaker. Despite being the heir to his father's huge empire, Mark has always maintained a low profile. He studied Business Administration at the University of Applied Sciences in Austria. Before taking the reins at Red Bull, he was working as a director in his mother's company.

After becoming the principal owner of Red Bull, Mark made significant changes to the company's complex structural arrangement. He moved away from his father's direct control model and created a three-director management committee. This committee includes experts in finance, marketing, and global business development. This step indicates that Mark intends to manage this vast global brand in a more professional and decentralized manner. Mark Mateschitz himself chose not to take the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company, preferring to focus on the oversight of the Board of Directors and the sports and media sector.

Mark Mateschitz's net worth, following his father's death, was estimated to be over $30 billion in 2023, placing him in the top 50 richest people in the world on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Under his leadership, the Red Bull brand continues to maintain its dominance in the sports sector, especially in Formula One racing, where the Red Bull Racing team is achieving continuous success. Mark Mateschitz is now carrying forward his legacy as the operator of an Austrian media and sports powerhouse.
